Making yogurt from formula milk is a great tip to create a delicious treat while ensuring your child gets enough nutrients. Let’s get creative with Highplus to make yogurt for your child’s snacks!
1. Ingredients for Highplus Yogurt:
- Highplus powdered milk
- 1 box of unsweetened yogurt (to be used as the starter yogurt)
- Glass jars with lids (sterilized and dried)
2. Steps to Make Highplus Yogurt:
- Step 1: Mix 250-300ml of Highplus milk and let it cool to around 45-50°C (you can use a thermometer to measure).
- Step 2: Add 2 tablespoons of starter yogurt into the prepared formula milk. Stir gently until the mixture is well combined. Note: The starter yogurt should be left at room temperature for 1-2 hours before use to prevent the final product from separating due to being too cold.
- Step 3: Divide the mixed yogurt into the sterilized jars, cover them with lids, and place them in a warm environment for fermentation.
- Step 4: If you have a yogurt maker, follow the instructions that come with the machine. If not, you can place the jars in a rice cooker. Then, pour warm water (about 40-45°C) into the cooker so that it covers up to 2/3 of the jars. Close the lid, turn on the warm setting (WARM), and incubate for 4-8 hours.
- Step 5: After the incubation period, take the jars out and refrigerate them in the fridge.
- Step 6: Add fruits or cereal to enhance the flavor of the yogurt.

3. How to Store Highplus Yogurt:
Yogurt should be stored in the refrigerator and not left at room temperature for more than 1 hour. After this time, harmful bacteria can enter the yogurt, potentially affecting your child’s health.
The yogurt recipe made with Highplus milk does not contain preservatives, so it should be consumed within 3-5 days.
4. Tips for Ensuring Successful Yogurt Making:
- Choose high-quality and safe ingredients.
- The incubation process needs to maintain a temperature of 40-45°C for the yeast to work effectively.
- During incubation, avoid shaking or moving the jars to prevent disrupting the yogurt’s texture.
- Only use warm water for making homemade yogurt from formula milk. Water that is too hot or boiling can kill the yeast.
- Do not reuse yogurt starter from formula milk.
- Avoid using leftover formula milk to make yogurt, as it may have been contaminated with your child’s saliva.
